Wike reveals how Nigerian journalists encourage bad leadership, tells them what to do

Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor has accused Nigerian journalists of encouraging dangerous leadership by preferring to give awards to leaders rather than demand accountability from them.

A press release launched by the governor’s special assistant on media, Kelvin Ebiri, mentioned that Wike spoke on Friday, when the national management of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) paid him a courtesy go to on the authorities house in Port Harcourt.

“What I’ve seen of you is that you simply reward us and provides us award due to relationship or friendship. That’s not the way in which it needs to be. Problem us — the individuals in authority — and we are going to sit as much as our tasks. We may have no choice than to carry out and serve the people appropriately.

“My support for you has to do with the truth that you’re supposed to inform the truth of what’s occurring in Nigeria.

“There was a time you had been exposing the ills of society. If not for you, sure issues is not going to be recognized. Assume your position, develop robust once more and communicate out,” Wike instructed his guests.

On the latest EndSARS protest, the governor mentioned, “If after I castigated the operations of SARS you added your voice, who is aware of what good that will have achieved.

“Now have a look at what has happened. There was EndSARS protest throughout the country. No one is aware of how the youth had been able to organise themselves and not using a leader.

“Up till now, intelligence can’t even know the way they did it and who’s behind them. Without good intelligence, how can Nigeria even defeat Boko Haram?”, he requested.
