Santo Domingo, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) Over 5.000 people were evacuated in Dominican Republic due to the effects of tropical storm Isaias, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported today.
According to the COE, rains damaged 1,168 houses and flooded 131 towns.
Likewise, COE keeps provinces of San Pedro de Macoris, Duarte, San Cristobal, Monte Plata, El Seibo, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Hato Mayor and Samana on red alert, and other 16 on yellow alert.
COE Director Juan Manuel Mendez told the press the alert levels continue because rivers are swollen and rainfall can still happen.
In addition, he said a moderate rain now can bring about a dangerous situation due to the degree of saturation in soils.
