Professor Akin Abayomi, Commissioner for Health in Lagos State has sent a message of hope to residents over the control of COVID-19 in the state.
The commissioner, who spoke at press briefing on Thursday, said that the coronavirus pandemic in Lagos, was currently seemingly under control.
Following the continuous increase in the number of confirmed cases of the virus in the state, there have been fears that the pandemic might get out of control.
But addressing newsmen during the briefing in Lagos, Abayomi said:
“From our data which we publish from time to time, we always talk about the curve but if I put it in simple terms, we are only seeing between 5 and 10 new cases everyday, which suggests that the outbreak is seemingly under control in Lagos State.
“If it was out of control, it would be seeing increasing number of cases on a daily basis. So whatever we are doing in Lagos is working.”
Lagos recorded its COVID-19 case in February, about two months ago, with an Italian man who had been treated and discharged.
Between February till April 9, the number of cases have risen to 158. About 139 patients have been discharged in the state with three reported deaths.
