The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, said it is making plans for a run-off presidential poll in 2023.
National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, disclosed this on Friday, at a roundtable meeting with Media Bureau Chiefs, in Abuja.
Okoye explained that the law provides that before anyone is declared winner of the presidential election, the candidate must have the highest number of votes cast and secure a quarter of the votes cast in two-thirds of the states of the federation and the FCT.

He said since the Commission may not have enough time to arrange for the printing of ballot papers immediately for the run-off, it has made plans to print double the total number of ballot papers required for the first ballot.
“This is because the law gives the commission just 21 days within which to engage in reverse logistics and conduct a run-off election in case there’s no winner,” he said.
Okoye said the plans also affect the governorship elections, where there would likely be a run-off in at least four states.
