Not less than twenty Senators elected at the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have given conditions to stop defections to opposition party.
Naija news reports that 13 APC senators have defected to the Peoples Democratic party party (PDP), Labour party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples party (NNPP) and others.
Following the defections, the APC now has 62 senators whilst the PDP boasts of 39; NNPP has 3; Young Progressives party (YPP) boasts of 2; Labour party (LP) has one and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), one.
The senators plotting to go away the ruling party are some who lost returning tickets to the National Assembly during primaries and have got mouthwatering offers from the PDP and others.
In addition they alleged that their states’ governors hijacked the senatorial primary elections which brought about their loss
The lawmaker stated that APC senators stated these during a meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Adamu Abdullahi, at the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Wednesday.
“The national chairman said the essence of his meeting with us was to find out the reasons APC senators were defecting. Adamu said he had intelligence reports that many senators were planning massive defections next week and he came to find out what could be done to halt the action.
“Some senators actually stood up to give different scenarios of the type of injustices they suffered in the hands of their governors. Adamu, after listening to them, promised that the National Working Committee of the APC and the leadership of the senate would meet soon to address the lawmakers’ grievances,” he said.
